The purpose of this funding opportunity is to identify a host for each of the three 2027 CIHR Summer Institute Programs:
The CIHR-IA Summer Program in Aging
The CIHR-IGH Summer Institute in Sex and Gender+ Science
The CIHR-IPPH Summer Institute on Public Health Systems
The summer programs are intensive five‑day capacity building programs in targeted strategic areas.
Host Responsibilities
Develop a curriculum that includes objectives, readings, training, mentoring, capacity building, experiential learning, and other opportunities to enhance capacity within the program’s research area.
Coordinate and manage all logistics related to the successful implementation of the summer program, including hiring planning staff, producing all training materials, and arranging transportation, accommodation, and meals for mentors, speakers, and trainee participants.
Eligibility and Requirements
The Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA) must be an independent researcher affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution or its affiliated entities.
Applicants must submit a tri‑agency CV and complete the required certification modules as specified in the funding opportunity.
Proposals must outline measures for engaging underrepresented groups and describe the role of applicant partners and any conflict of interest considerations.
Funding Summary
Total available funding: $390,000, allocated equally across the three programs ($130,000 each).
Funding is subject to availability and may be reduced, deferred, or suspended in unforeseen circumstances.
Reporting and Evaluation
Hosts will provide a final manual report, including post‑summer participant survey results and a 1-2 page summary of program achievements.
Selection Criteria
Recognition as an international leader in the research area.
Clarity of the proposal and plan to host the summer program.
Appropriate timetable with clear deliverables for planning and implementation.
Capacity to prepare, plan, and oversee the program efficiently.
Clear articulation of how Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles will be incorporated.
Relevance to First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis community priorities.
Legal and Accessibility Information
All information intended for public consumption must be provided in both official languages, accessible to screen readers, and developed using plain language practices.
