Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is seeking a
Senior Manager, Institutional Giving
who is passionate about advancing social justice. The successful candidate will identify, steward, and secure funding from institutional donors such as private foundations and corporations. This role requires approximately 30% travel.
Who You Are
Results‑driven with a proven track record of soliciting and closing major institutional gifts.
Strategic, able to develop and implement plans for each donor and translate trends into actionable goals.
Collaborative, working independently and with programmatic staff to match donor priorities with institutional goals.
Articulate and influential, with strong verbal and written communication skills, including persuasive presentations and grant proposals.
Resourceful in researching, cultivating, and managing a portfolio of institutional donors.
People‑manager, experienced in hiring, training, performance reviews, and staff development.
Committed to SPLC’s mission, vision, and values, including a strong alignment with our JEDI principles.
What You’ll Do
Establish a clear vision and strategy for SPLC’s institutional donor portfolio under the supervision of the Director of Major Gifts and Institutional Giving.
Write, edit, and prepare high‑quality grant proposals and reports for corporate donors and private foundations.
Manage a staff of three using SMARTIE objectives, providing coaching and mentorship.
Supervise two support staff, providing operational assistance to the broader team.
Liaise with program, communications, and monitoring & evaluation departments to present programmatic impact compellingly.
Maintain systems for prospecting, cultivating donors, and tracking grant deliverables.
Develop and implement strategies for fundraising from foundations and other prospects for institutional grants.
Uphold JEDI principles by seeking diverse collaborators and partners whose contributions align with SPLC’s mission.
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years of experience in development/fundraising within a nonprofit organization, with experience working with institutional funders preferred.
Minimum 3 years of management experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Compensation & Benefits This is an exempt role with a minimum starting salary of $129,129 annually, commensurate with experience. Benefits are available to SPLC staff.
Where & How You’ll Work
Local Remote: Work remotely with expected attendance at SPLC offices or in relevant states.
Telework: Work at an SPLC office at least three days per week, with up to two days per week at an alternate location.
Distant Remote: Work remotely, not expected to work in states with SPLC offices, but occasional meetings may be required.
The role reports to the Director of Major Gifts and Institutional Giving.
Other Special Considerations This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
