Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and strategic Pre-Litigation Managing Attorney to lead and mentor our high‑performing pre‑litigation team. This leader will be responsible for overseeing the management of up to 800 active personal injury cases, supervising a team of case managers, demand writers, settlement negotiators, lien negotiators, and support staff. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of personal injury law, and a passion for developing legal talent.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Supervision
Directly supervise case managers, demand writers, settlement negotiators, lien negotiators, and support personnel.
Oversee the assignment and strategic management of Serious Injury (SI) cases to ensure thorough handling and optimal outcomes.
Act as a mentor and coach to junior attorneys and case managers, fostering professional growth and performance improvement.
Operational Management
Ensure cases move efficiently through the pre‑litigation process, focusing on average matter value (AMV) and time on desk (TOD) metrics.
Provide oversight of the Settlement Department and review reduction requests to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to internal policies and compliance standards.
Collaborate on settlement strategies to support effective resolution and ensure alignment with client interests.
Provide advisement to the intake team on case strategy and quality.
Process & Quality Control
Support the evaluation of high‑value demands by providing guidance on general damages assessments for Serious Injury (SI) cases, ensuring consistency with firm standards and practices.
Implement and maintain best practices for case management, documentation, and client communication.
Coordinate with the litigation department to ensure seamless case transitions.
Uphold the highest standards of legal ethics and compliance.
Client Engagement
Engage directly with clients as needed, particularly for high‑value settlements and complex negotiations.
Support the firm’s commitment to client satisfaction through effective communication and problem‑solving.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
Serve as an HR liaison for pre‑litigation team matters, helping bridge communication between legal operations and HR support.
Qualifications
J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership.
8+ years of personal injury law experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
Demonstrated success in managing large case volumes and achieving high settlement values.
Strong understanding of case valuation, negotiation strategies, and lien resolution.
Proficiency with Litify or other legal CRM platforms preferred.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Highly organized with a focus on operational efficiency and process improvement.
