Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering (AY 26/27)
Join as a full‑time, academic year, tenure‑track faculty position at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo beginning Fall 2026.
Department and Institution:
Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, College of Engineering, California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo.
Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate lecture courses and laboratories in civil engineering and structural engineering and design.
Teach graduate courses and laboratories in structural engineering, design, and in your area of expertise.
Supervise undergraduate and graduate‑level research.
Develop and maintain externally funded research.
Engage in activities related to student advising, curriculum development, and shared governance.
Qualifications
Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in civil, structural, architectural engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution; ABD applicants may be considered with proof of award.
Excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program involving undergraduate and graduate students and partners with key stakeholders.
Strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching and student‑centered learning.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated excellence in university‑level teaching and research (commensurate with time since degree).
Experience with laboratory‑based instruction and/or industry experience.
Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment.
