Position Summary
The Staff Accountant will play a key role in managing the financial operations that support Republic Affairs’ mission and our clients’ success. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, values-driven professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment. The Staff Accountant will assist with general accounting functions, client financial reporting, and operational process improvements. Key Responsibilities
Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities for internal and client accounts. Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments while maintaining awareness of cash flow needs. Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant nonprofit accounting standards. Support payroll processing and expense reimbursements. Client Support
Assist in preparing client financial statements, grant reports, and other reporting as needed. Provide responsive financial and administrative support to client organizations as needed. Track project and grant spending to ensure proper allocation and reporting. Assist with audit preparation, tax filings, and compliance documentation. Internal Operations
Partner with the team to improve accounting systems and workflows. Prepare periodic financial reports for presentation to ownership, providing clear analysis of performance and trends. Maintain organized financial records and documentation in accordance with internal controls. Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 2–4 years of professional accounting experience (nonprofit accounting experience preferred). Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets, and familiar with accounting software and AI tools. Strong communication skills and attention to detail, organization, and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Preferred: Experience with nonprofit or social impact organizations. Familiarity with fund accounting, grant reporting, and 1099/vendor compliance. Commitment to Republic Affairs’ mission of supporting values-driven clients. Ability to work on-site in downtown DC five days a week (this is not a remote opportunity). Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits
