The Opportunity The Senior Manager will lead and strengthen AUVSI’s air advocacy initiatives by advancing policy priorities across Congress and key federal agencies, including DOT, FAA, FCC, NIST, DOC, DHS, and DOJ.
This role is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with Members of Congress, Committees, and staff, while tracking and promoting legislation, regulations, and funding that support the integration of uncrewed systems within the aviation and aerospace sectors. Serving as the primary contact for AUVSI members involved in air domain activities, the Senior Manager will provide policy intelligence, strategic guidance, and advocacy leadership on issues related to UAS and AAM integration, certification, spectrum, airspace access, safety, and innovation.
This position requires experience with the federal legislative and regulatory process and registration as a federal lobbyist.
You will be responsible for… The Senior Manager, Government Affairs will manage and expand AUVSI’s air portfolio across the legislative and executive branches, serving as a key representative for the association’s air-focused members and stakeholders. This position will serve as the day-to-day manager of AUVSI’s Air Advocacy Committee, a group of approximately 150 AUVSI member companies all across the UAS and AAM sectors.
As AUVSI’s subject-matter expert (SME) on air-related programs and policies, the Senior Manager will provide analysis and strategic recommendations on regulatory developments, legislative opportunities, and emerging issues that impact UAS and AAM operations.
Goals for this position include:
Provide AUVSI Air Advocacy Committee members with real-time advocacy intelligence, counsel, and support on air advocacy priorities on Capitol Hill and from the relevant executive branch agencies.
Manage the day-to-day functions of the Air Advocacy Committee and its members and routinely interface with member company leadership at all levels.
Work with AUVSI members to foster positions on key policy areas impacting the commercial air sector.
Retain current and recruit new members in the industry that are engaged in autonomy, uncrewed systems, robotics, AI, and cybersecurity.
Write briefs, letters, summaries, and other materials to support members, AUVSI communications, and other internal and external needs.
Ability to effectively respond to Congressional requests for feedback on pending and/or draft legislation, and support drafting, gathering feedback on, and submitting regulatory comments.
Assist in the creation and execution of advocacy strategic plans and tactics.
Qualifications
Three to five years of experience in government affairs, policy, or regulatory work related to aviation, aerospace, transportation, or technology.
Experience with Congressional committees or federal agencies such as FAA, DOT, or NASA strongly preferred.
Must be based in the DC/DMV area with regular engagement on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies.
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders.
Strong knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes in aviation and aerospace.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
This position will be based in our Arlington, VA office on a hybrid schedule (minimum of three days per week in the office).
The office space is a new construction with a state-of-the-art anti‑microbial air filtration system.
Some travel is required, typically up to 30% of the time.
