Lead Structural Engineer -- Owner's Engineering Support at

Sargent & Lundy . This position offers the opportunity to apply experience and knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design to support creative, cost-effective solutions for existing and new designs. You will work on a wide range of power plant and industrial facility modifications and upgrades to support client requests and reviews, including creating calculations, design documents, and specifications. You will conduct structural analyses with complex loading conditions such as wind, seismic, blast, and pressurization. Responsibilities

Develop conceptual and detailed designs for new power generation with an emphasis on gas turbine based simple and combined cycle facilities. Provide structural lead guidance to junior engineers and designers, coordinating detailed design phases for all aspects of structural engineering work. Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of structural engineering issues. Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, and foundations using state-of-the-art computer tools. Develop integrated structural designs and supporting calculations for planned work. Prepare technical specifications for EPC-based projects and structural materials for power production. Prepare engineering studies, including FEED studies, associated with the power industry. Perform independent reviews of work performed by others, including calculations and drawing preparation. Coordinate and provide guidance to other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure a complete and timely design. Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements, including on-site structural condition assessments and recommendations for repair or modification of structures that have varying levels of degradation or are being repurposed. Develop career through peer-learning and participate in S&L’s Communities of Practice; mentor less experienced engineers. Interact with clients and potentially travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for condition assessments, construction coordination, and field verification of designs. Occasional travel to Headquarters in Chicago, IL and other regional offices (less than 10%). Qualifications

Essential Skills And Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred) with structural engineering emphasis from an ABET-accredited program. Ten+ years of experience in a project team environment in the design of non-commercial, heavy industrial plants, focusing on analysis of steel structures, concrete foundations, and supports for new plants or modifications. PE license required. Experience writing and providing support documentation for structural engineering calculations. Knowledge of practical structural engineering applications including analysis for supports, loads, and design integrity. Experience with design techniques, tools, and principles for producing technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models for industrial plants. Proficiency with MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS. Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318. Proficiency with MS Office. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of gas turbines and procurement for power generation is preferred. Structural lead experience for detailed design of simple cycle and/or combined cycle projects is preferred. Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience
