Job Purpose The Instrument Technician supports the Electrical and Instrumentation Team by installing, maintaining, calibrating, and adjusting instrumentation and instrument loop components such as pipe, fittings, tubing, valves, and instruments.
Essential Job Functions
Calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, and digital control loops used in the petroleum industry.
Maintain relay logic systems, PLCs, turbine controls, compressor surge flow totalizing loops, air‑drying systems, local and remote annunciators, gas/oil‑fired heaters, re‑boilers, and various valve designs.
Work with tubing and piping fittings from vacuum to >5,000 psi and electrical circuits up to 50 V.
Use a variety of test equipment.
Read, interpret, and update electrical, electronic, piping, and instrument drawings and schematics.
Provide written and oral documentation of job status.
Conduct safety and productivity observations; complete required safety training.
Support the company’s environmental management system.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Interpret instrumentation drawings and schematics.
Calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and repair devices and control loops.
Maintain systems and equipment as outlined above.
Work with high‑pressure fittings (up to 5,000 psi) and low‑voltage circuits (up to 50 V).
Read, use, and update drawings and schematics.
Cooperate with others, alternate duties, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Apply sound judgment in decision making.
Adhere to established safety policies and the environmental management system.
Physical Demands / Work Environment Work is performed in a remote Arctic environment with limited medical resources. Physical requirements include:
Stand, walk, sit, squat, kneel, crawl, and reach in high and low ranges on level, uneven, and slippery surfaces.
Perform prolonged standing and driving in the dark and inclement weather.
Climb scaffolds, ramps, stairs, ladders, and wellhouse/tank/facility fixed ladders (up to 20 ft).
Use fall protection as per manufacturer specifications.
Lift 50 lb. from floor to waist or shoulder; carry 50 lb. for 15 ft; push/pull 60 lb. sled for 20 ft; push/pull 90 lb. cart for 20 ft.
Required Qualifications
NFPA70E certification within six months of hire.
High school diploma or equivalent GED.
Valid driver’s license and eligibility to be insured by Worley.
North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) certification (or willingness to obtain).
Strong instrumentation & controls experience in an oil field, petrochemical, or industrial setting.
Preferred Qualifications
1‑year experience with remote North Slope operations and demonstrated knowledge of facilities, safety processes, and maintenance procedures.
2‑3 years instrumentation & controls experience or an Associate of Applied Science in Instrumentation.
In‑Vehicle Monitoring System Company vehicles are equipped with in‑cab cameras and monitoring systems for safety compliance.
