Position Summary

Stony Brook Medicine seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Shift Supervisor in the Immunology Laboratory (including Main Immunology, Flow Cytometry & Lyme sections). In this role, the successful candidate will work under the direction of the TH Associate Technical Director, ensuring accurate, timely patient results and full compliance with regulatory standards. Candidates should demonstrate clinical laboratory expertise, leadership, and excellent communication skills.

Duties

Oversee day‑to‑day operations, assign duties, and maintain efficient workflow.

Develop and implement the departmental quality control program; review daily QC activities and take corrective action.

Perform test analysis for the assigned test menu in the Immunology Laboratory.

Maintain competency in manual and automated testing, including Flow Cytometry where applicable.

Design, implement, and evaluate education of new personnel, students, and other staff per NYS DOH requirements.

Troubleshoot instrument repair and data archiving of the imaging system.

Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, CAP, CLIA, OSHA/PEHS, and NYS/DOH regulations.

Conduct yearly QA projects, compile monthly statistics, validate new tests and instruments, and manage CAP proficiency reports.

Manage inventory, ordering, and maintain a daily inventory record in Lawson.

Coordinate student rotations and serve as SB Safe Coordinator.

Prepare laboratory for inspections, accreditations, and mock inspections.

Develop and update SOPs, policies, and training materials.

Assist with budget development, vendor agreements, and time‑card management.

Provide input on staff performance evaluations.

Attend continuing education seminars to attain 12 NYS DOH credits.

Support Flow Cytometry Research Core Facility operations as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent.

NYSED Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist.

Minimum six years of clinical laboratory experience in Clinical Immunology or Flow Cytometry, with at least two years in a supervisory or administrative capacity.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in a related field.

Experience maintaining instrumentation in an Immunology or Flow Cytometry lab.

Experience with Cerner (HIS), Clinisys (LIS‑SunQuest), and/or CoPath applications.

Proficiency in Microsoft 365.

Additional Requirements

Pre‑employment physical examination and medical clearance.

Complete electronic reference checks with at least three professional references.

Four‑panel drug screen.

Regulatory pre‑employment screenings and NYS license certificates.

Salary Salary range: $108,106 – $137,103 per year (2025). Offer will be based on experience. Additional annual supplemental pay may include location pay, shift differentials, and inconvenience pay.
