Duties and Responsibilities

Teaches Computer Information Systems and Security courses, including IT Essentials, Operating Systems, Networking, Scripting, Cloud Computing, Shell Programming, and Information Security.

Develops and delivers hands‑on, competency‑based lessons aligned with course learning outcomes and industry standards (NIST, Cisco, CompTIA).

Submits accurate and timely reports, attendance records, grades, and other documentation in accordance with institutional policies.

Provides academic advising and support to students through scheduled office hours, email, or virtual meetings.

Assesses student performance using a variety of evaluation tools and offers constructive feedback.

Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community stakeholders to support an inclusive learning environment.

Participates in departmental meetings, curriculum development, assessment activities, professional development workshops, and institutional trainings.

Collaborates on program enhancement, advisory committee engagement, and coordination of instructional resources.

Key Responsibilities (Summary)

Deliver engaging, hands‑on instruction.

Develop syllabi, lesson plans, and assignments aligned with program objectives.

Provide constructive feedback and support to students.

Stay current with technology and industry standards.

Collaborate with faculty to enhance curriculum and student outcomes.

Educational Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. Work experience may also be considered.

Experience Requirements

Strong commitment to the mission of Sam Houston State University.

Demonstrated mastery of computer hardware, networking, operating systems, cybersecurity, cloud services, and scripting languages.

Experience teaching hands‑on technical skills using industry tools (e.g., Cisco Packet Tracer, virtualization platforms, security scanners).

Effective instructional design and classroom management skills that promote active learning.

Ability to apply adult learning principles and support inclusive teaching methods.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Collaborative mindset with industry partners and advisory boards.

Commitment to continuous professional growth and student‑centered teaching.

Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).

Preferred Qualifications

Adoption of best practices for online learning.

High quality teaching and student success record.

Strong technology literacy and customer‑service orientation.

Fluency in English for written and spoken communication.

Attention to detail and ability to multitask with minimal supervision.
