The Linux Systems Administrator manages and maintains an organization’s Linux‑based servers and infrastructure, ensuring their stability, security, and optimal performance. Key responsibilities include installing and configuring systems, managing user accounts, monitoring system health, implementing security protocols, performing backups and recovery, and automating tasks with scripting languages like Bash or Python. They also troubleshoot issues, apply patches and upgrades, maintain system documentation, and collaborate with other IT teams to support the overall IT environment.

Responsibilities
System Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and applications on physical and virtual servers.
User and Access Management: Create and manage user accounts, groups, and permissions, ensuring access control and security protocols are followed.
System Monitoring: Continuously monitor server performance, resource consumption, and system logs to proactively identify and address potential issues.
Security Management: Implement and maintain robust security measures, conduct security audits, and respond to security incidents to protect the infrastructure and data.
Patching and Updates: Apply operating system updates, patches, and software upgrades to ensure systems are current and protected from vulnerabilities.
Backup and Recovery: Develop and execute regular system backups and establish disaster recovery plans to safeguard critical data.
Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues to minimize downtime and provide technical support to users.
Automation: Use scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl to automate routine maintenance tasks, increasing efficiency and reducing human error.
Documentation: Create and maintain accurate documentation for system configurations, changes, and procedures for reference and compliance.
Collaboration: Work with other IT professionals, including DevOps and security teams, to design, implement, and optimize system architecture and infrastructure.
Qualifications Journeyman
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree and/or 2 to 5 years of experience
Security Clearance: TS/SCI required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI with Poly highly desired
Strong knowledge of various Linux distributions (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS).
Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl).
Familiarity with networking concepts and security principles.
Experience with virtualization platforms.
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Senior
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree and/or 5 to 10 years of experience
Security Clearance: TS/SCI required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI with Poly highly desired
Strong knowledge of various Linux distributions (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS).
