The Manufacturing Engineering Liaison provides a Design for Assembly (DFA) viewpoint in support of the delivery of customer requirements and maximizes the efficiency of the engineering and production operations. Serves as the point of contact for questions, concerns and issues relating to the production process or product issues: From engineering to production/From production to engineering.
The Manufacturing Engineering Liaison reports to the Design Engineer Manager. This position requires full time work week spent in the shop/office in Mooresville, NC. Normal hours are Monday through Thursday 7:00am-4:30pm and Friday 7:00am – 12:00pm. (Must be flexible to work additional hours as needed based on project requirements and deadlines)
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a liaison between the Engineering and Production departments often working closely with R&D/Fabrication personnel on prototypes and new builds.
Perform design engineering tasks, including creating, modifying, and reviewing 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using CAD software.
Participate in Design Reviews and Kick-Off Meetings, providing fabrication and design expertise to ensure manufacturability and cost efficiency.
Work closely with Production personnel to understand proposed changes in methods of design and assembly while translating that information into design modifications for the engineering team.
Investigate reports of defective, damaged, or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, or systems to determine nature and scope of the problem.
Manage and resolve engineering problems with the Quality Department; ECR's, dispositions, TDW's, etc.
Investigate engineering design errors and correct in a timely manner.
Assist in diagnosing, troubleshooting, problem solving and analysis of issues in person and remotely.
Ensure engineering drawings and documents are current and that engineering-related production problems and resolutions are completed and documented.
Support and interpret designs to Production and Vendors.
Check engineering drawings and suggest changes that support Design for Assembly (DFA).
Skills and Qualifications Required
Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred, or 10+ years of related job experience.
Prior experience with CAD would be highly advantageous.
Experience working in ERP/MRP Systems
Preferred knowledge surrounding GD&T, DFM, and Prototyping processes.
Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
Working in MS Excel
Familiarity of engineering drawings and bills of materials
Minimum of 10 years' experience working in a production environment.
Must have strong knowledge and understanding of fabrication, machining, materials, etc.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks.
Effectively communicate with several individuals at all levels of the organization.
Strong problem solving, interpersonal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain an organized process for completing work on time.
Accuracy in work assignments and a strong work ethic as a part of a team.
Must be able to verify U.S. Person Status as defined by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Ability to obtain security clearance if deemed necessary for position
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
