COTTONWOOD CANYON HEALTHCARE CENTER

This Nursing Home Registered Nurse (RN) position supports long‑term and post‑acute residents in a compassionate, high‑quality care environment. The RN works under the Director of Nursing Services and ensures that all nursing policies, procedures and regulations are followed while promoting resident health and safety.

Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing daily nursing activities and maintaining current policies, procedures, and manuals.

Develop, review, and update written policies and procedures for the nursing department.

Maintain up‑to‑date reference materials at nurses’ stations (PDRs, regulations, professional standards).

Ensure all nursing personnel comply with the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.

Provide written and oral reports to the Director regarding operations, resident care, and regulatory compliance.

Collaborate with resident services to coordinate multidisciplinary care plans and assist in discharge planning.

Participate in facility quality assurance programs, inspections, and surveys.

Conduct accident/incident reporting and ensure proper documentation of resident care.

Interpret and communicate policies to staff, residents, visitors, and agencies.

Attend committee meetings (Infection Control, Quality Assurance, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, etc.) and prepare/write reports.

Ensure staffing adequacy: develop work assignments, monitor absenteeism, and report staffing concerns to the Director.

Play an active role in nursing staff training, orientation, performance evaluation, and discipline.

Monitor compliance with dress code, hand hygiene, and infection control procedures.

Advise on safety procedures: bacterial/chemical exposure, use of personal protective equipment, and emergency evacuation.

Assist residents with admissions, transfers, discharges, and daily assessments.

Administer medication per policy, monitor for adverse events, and maintain medication logs.

Provide direct nursing care: IVs, specimen collection, vital signs, and acute interventions.

Collaborate with physicians to ensure timely documentation and orders.

Communicate changes in resident condition to the attending physician and family.

Maintain and report on equipment, supplies, and medication inventory.

Assist the Charge Nurse with supervising clinical care and training of aides.

Participate in preventive maintenance of nursing equipment and facilities.

Promote resident dignity and maintain a safe, sanitary environment.

Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive infection control program.

Engage in ongoing continuing education to enhance nursing practice and maintain licensure.

Qualifications & Education

Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate’s degree acceptable with required experience.

Minimum of 2 years experience in a long‑term or post‑acute care setting.

Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.

Proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical documentation systems.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex policy and procedure manuals.

Mathematical competence for medication calculations and data analysis.

Excellent reasoning, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.

Leadership, teamwork, and supervisory skills.

Understanding of nursing regulations, state and federal guidelines.

Current CPR certification; other certifications (e.g., PAC, Advanced Cardiac Life Support) are an asset.

Continuous commitment to stay current with nursing education and licensure requirements.

Physical ability to perform tasks: stand/ walk, lift up to 25 lbs, and work hours beyond normal shifts.

Physical Demands

Move, stand and walk for large portions of the shift; commute to work by public transport or personal vehicle.

Handle pain and stressful situations, requiring large mental capacity and emotional resilience.

Lift up to 25 lbs, push, pull, and carry personnel across a distance of at least 50 feet.

Assist with transporting residents and equipment.

Use of protective gear for exposure to blood, body fluids and potential hazardous materials.

Work Environment

Work in clinical staff areas, nurses’ stations, and resident rooms throughout the facility.

Shift work: evenings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays.

Multitemperature environments spanning office spaces and clinical units.

Exposure to common work hazards: biological waste, chemicals, injuries from accidents, and high‑pressure situations.

Interaction with residents, families, visiting physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Availability for emergency response and evacuation duties when required.
