Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for the processing of payroll for multiple states on a biweekly schedule. Create and maintain reports and respond to payroll related inquiries. Maintain a current and comprehensive understanding of all applicable processes, as well as state and county payroll laws and taxes.
Responsibilities
Ensure employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsible for the end-to-end payroll cycle including multiple groups of employees.
Process multi-tax jurisdiction payrolls for roughly 1200 employees on a biweekly pay frequency. Pay cycles include hourly and salaried employees.
Assist with reporting and analytics for senior management, Finance Department etc.
Provide administrative support for payroll related functions and inquiries. Demonstrate ability to respond and resolve payroll inquiries and discrepancies in a professional, accurate and timely manner while delivering quality customer service.
Verify funds for stop payments are properly credited to the correct accounts.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities including processing required documentation.
Assist in determining correct pay amounts by applying overtime rates, deductions, and bonuses through computerized systems.
Processing wage garnishments, tax withholdings and other payroll deductions, as needed.
Validate and remit 403b payments and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payments.
Keep track of hour rates, wages, compensation benefit rates, and new hire information changes.
Monitor and track overtime hours and run bi-weekly reports to identify trends.
Assist with audit requirements such as providing schedules and documents related to the financial statement audit, 403b audit and worker compensation audits.
Ability to be a team player.
Perform special projects as needed and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
5+ years of relevant experience in a payroll position; Bachelor’s Degree a plus but not required; accounting or relevant field experience is a plus.
Knowledge of Paycom or similar payroll system; Demonstrate ability to generate payroll reports and analytics is a strong plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
Skilled in payroll best practices and working knowledge of applicable payroll taxes, and related laws and regulations, for NY, NJ, and PA a plus.
Adherence to internal controls and exhibits ability to maintain high confidentiality.
Extremely organized individual who pays meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to effectively communicate in the highest levels both verbally and in writing.
Adaptable to change.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.
Self-starter with ability to manage assigned workflows independently.
