Essential Job Duties
The Local Foods Research and Extension Assistant will be responsible for supporting research and extension activities related to community-based food systems. Research activities may include qualitative data collection (ex semi-structured interviews, focus groups); qualitative data analysis (ex coding), writing up relevant reports and/or academic publications; developing, analyzing, and summarizing survey data; and/or conducting literature reviews on relevant topics. Extension activities may include translating research into public-facing outputs, including resource guides, trainings, and Extension publications, among others. Local food topic areas include Farm to Institution (such as Farm to Early Care and Education, Farm to School), local food infrastructure (including engagement with food hubs, central kitchens), needs assessments of relevant stakeholders, etc.

Requirements and Preferences
Minimum Experience/Education: Relevant Master’s degree or Relevant Bachelor’s and 3 or more years of relevant experience, or relevant independent experience and education
Department Required Skills: Proficient in overall research methods and analysis, including qualitative data collection/analysis, conducting literature reviews and contributing to academic publications
Preferred Skills: Proficient with qualitative data analysis software (Dedoose, NVivo, etc.) and survey development/analysis software (Qualtrics, Google forms, etc.)
Preferred: 2-3 years experience working with farmers and/or consumers in local food projects
Valid NC Driver's License required? No
Commercial Driver's License Required? No
