Special Requirements
US Citizenship required to obtain Public Trust
DHS Public Trust preferred
Bachelor’s Degree + 4 years of experience (or equivalent experience)
Experience designing user interfaces for web‑based applications
Familiarity with data visualization concepts and dashboard‑style layouts
Background working on federal IT projects or within secure, compliance‑driven environments
Understanding of how to integrate complex data and backend functionality into clear, user‑friendly interfaces
The GIST Our UI/UX Designer will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design intuitive, accessible, and engaging digital experiences that support critical government missions. You’ll turn complex workflows and data into user‑friendly designs that are visually cohesive, Section 508‑compliant, and optimized for usability. Your work will help ensure that our digital solutions are both functional and enjoyable to use—empowering federal employees and the citizens they serve.
Partner with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to understand business needs, user goals, and system requirements
Translate ideas and requirements into wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch
Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing to inform design decisions and iterate on solutions
Develop and maintain design systems, pattern libraries, and style guides to ensure consistency across products
Design for accessibility and compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA standards
Collaborate closely with developers to ensure design intent is accurately implemented
Create responsive, mobile‑friendly layouts and optimize workflows for usability and performance
Participate in Agile ceremonies and provide design input throughout the product development lifecycle
US Citizenship required to obtain government clearance
Bachelor’s Degree in Design, HCI, or related field and 4+ years of UI/UX experience
Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in user‑centered design for complex or data‑driven applications
Proficiency with Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or InVision
Experience designing for responsive web applications with a strong understanding of accessibility requirements
Understanding of front‑end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to collaborate effectively with developers
Proven ability to conduct user research, usability testing, and iterative design
Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to explain design decisions clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences
Ability to thrive in fast‑paced, agile environments and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
