Entry Level Machinist – CMI Group

Base pay range

$17.00/hr - $19.00/hr

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently operate the MV1100 vertical machining center, including tool selection.
  • Make machine offset adjustments as needed.
  • Interpret Mot’s engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
  • Perform first article and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, CMMS).
  • Identify and resolve machining issues, tool wear, and tolerance deviations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Monitor and maintain machine productivity.
  • Collaborate with quality, engineering, and production teams to resolve production challenges.
  • Accurately document production and inspection results in accordance with AS9100 or ISO standards.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, including ITAR and other compliance regulations.

Will Learn

  • CNC machining practices and gain experience on MV1100 or similar Mazak vertical machines.
  • Read and interpret Mot drawings and GD&T requirements.
  • Use a wide‑range of precision measuring tools.
  • Familiar with Fanuc or Mazatrol controls (depending on machine configuration).

Education

  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED or trade school.
  • Completion of a certified machinist or manufacturing technology program preferred.
  • Learning AS9100 or ISO 9001 to be certified at our facility.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for the majority of the work shift, reach overhead, and bend to the floor; exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Visual acuity to detect surface defects, tool wear, or measurement deviations; good near vision for reading drawings, measurements, and digital readouts, and computer screens.
  • Must tolerate exposure to machining dust, oils, and moderate noise levels in a manufacturing environment.

  • U.S. citizenship or valid Permanent Resident status required.
  • Physical demands and technical skills as listed.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
