Job summaryThe Class A route driver is responsible for the safe and timely pickup and delivery of liquid bulk or hazardous materials to designated locations. The driver must adhere to strict federal, state, and local regulations and company safety policies. This role requires a high degree of responsibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to customer service. Key responsibilitiesSafely operate a Class A commercial motor vehicle with tanker and hazmat endorsements.Transport and deliver bulk liquids, chemicals, or other hazardous materials over local or regional routes.Perform thorough pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle and equipment are in safe operating condition.Properly load, unload, and secure cargo in compliance with all safety and regulatory guidelines.Complete and maintain all required paperwork, including manifests, bills of lading, and daily electronic logs (ELD).Affix correct placards to the vehicle as required by the transported materials.Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and other team members to coordinate deliveries and report issues.Maintain a clean and organized truck.Provide high levels of customer service at delivery and pickup locations.Follow all company and customer on-site procedures. QualificationsLicensing: Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).Endorsements: Required tanker and hazardous materials (hazmat) endorsements.Driving Record: A clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major convictions.Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of commercial driving experience, with hazmat and tanker experience often preferred. Some companies are willing to train qualified individuals.Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting and carrying hoses weighing up to 50 lbs, bending, and climbing.Testing: Must pass a DOT physical, drug and alcohol screening, and a road test.Background Check: Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check for hazmat endorsement.Industry Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other relevant regulations. Work environment and scheduleThe job may involve regional or local routes, with some positions offering daily home time.The schedule may be 5 days on and 2 days off, with shift options including days and nights.Work is performed in an industrial, outdoor environment, with exposure to various weather conditions.Some roles may require a flexible schedule or overnight travel.
