Position: Senior Accountant Department: Finance and Control
Reports To: Corporate Controller
Location: Chicago, IL
About the Role The Senior Accountant at Nonni's Bakery will be responsible for managing complex accounting tasks, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting month‑end and year‑end close processes while maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of GAAP and IFRS, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in driving process improvements and supporting strategic financial initiatives across the organization.
Responsibilities
Support and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including journal entries and accruals, postings and reversals
Assist in month‑end and year‑end close processes
Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
Ensure compliance with GAAP and IFRS internal accounting policies
Support budgeting and forecasting processes
Audit & Compliance Support
Assist with audits (internal and external) by providing required documentation
Review and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
Ensure adherence to financial controls and procurement policies
Assist with audits as needed
Expense Management & Administration
Manage company travel and expense reports and submission for employee payment reimbursements
Ensure proper governance to company T&E policies
Process and code invoices, raise purchase orders, and reconcile expenses to projects
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting
Build partnership with accounts receivable and accounts payable departments, and support backfill duties as needed
Support monthly closing meetings and accrual cost tracking with sub‑departments in Sales, Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain and Corporate cost centers
Support Operations Finance to manage fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules
Mentor or review the work of junior accounting staff as needed
Systems & Process Improvement
Support the implementation of ERP and system general ledger accounts
Drive process improvements and efficiency initiatives
Maintain proficiency with accounting software and systems
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3-5+ years of professional accounting experience
Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls
Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle)
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Consumer Product and Food Manufacturing
CPA preferred but not required
Familiarity with ERP systems (Sage, Oracle, Infor, and SAP)
Knowledge/awareness of Ferrero culture and organization
Advanced data analysis and visualization skills
