Location:
Chicago, IL Salary:
$55,000.00 USD Annually - $70,000.00 USD Annually As our Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing month-end close processes, and partnering with leadership to provide actionable insights. This position has the opportunity to work hybrid between our Chicago offices in Logan Square or Lincoln Square and also working from home. Key Responsibilities
General Ledger Management:
Maintain and reconcile all general ledger accounts on a monthly basis Post journal entries, accruals, and prepayments
Month-End & Year-End Close:
Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements Prepare supporting schedules and account analyses for auditors
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Oversee invoice processing, vendor payments, and vendor account reconciliations Monitor A/R aging, prepare customer statements, and coordinate collections
Payroll Coordination:
Collaborate with HR/payroll provider to review and approve bi-weekly payroll
Labor Cost Allocation:
Allocate labor costs accurately by store and department
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Produce monthly P&L reports, variance analyses, and cash-flow forecasts Identify trends, cost-saving opportunities, and provide recommendations to leadership
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Assist in annual budget preparation and periodic reforecasts Track actual performance against targets and explain variances
Compliance & Controls:
Ensure adherence to internal controls, GAAP standards, and tax regulations Prepare state and local sales tax and other filings, as needed
System & Process Improvements:
Evaluate current accounting processes; recommend and implement efficiencies (e.g., automation, software integrations) Manage and improve QuickBooks Online (QBO) workflows and processes
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 2+ years of accounting experience—preferably in QSR, hospitality, or multi-unit franchise operations Proficient with QuickBooks Online; advanced Excel skills required Strong grasp of GAAP accounting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines Self-starter who thrives in a remote and in-person team environment and communicates proactively Contact: spsmith@judge.com
