The Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies (CAMI) at the University of Arizona seeks a Principal Scientist with expertise in translational cancer immunology. The role is non‑teaching, non‑tenure track, emphasizing research, external funding, and science team coordination.
Position Overview Lead the development of a new cancer immunotherapy. You will bring an original hypothesis, secure proof‑of‑concept studies, and guide the project toward clinical translation and commercialization. CAMI will provide space, resources, and up to three years of support for the candidate to advance their research and launch a startup.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and execute a research program to advance immunological therapies.
Plan and conduct rigorous experiments, analyze data, and disseminate findings.
Coordinate strategic research partnerships with academia, federal labs, and private sector organizations.
Assist in writing grants and proposals that support commercialization efforts.
Manage a small team (1–3 research professionals or technicians) and lead the group toward defined milestones toward intellectual property, commercialization, and early‑stage clinical trials.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
In‑depth knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols in oncology and immunology.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Strong project management and team‑building experience.
Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment while fostering collaboration.
Proactive, resourceful, detail‑oriented, and willing to learn and adapt.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in immunology, cancer biology, or a related field.
Demonstrated record of scientific achievement in immunology or cancer biology.
Proven publication record, including independent work and collaborations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in commercialization or startup development in life sciences.
Background in securing external funding and engaging with industry partners.
