The office is located in Downtown Chicago, and everyone is fully on-site. If you are not comfortable working in a fast-paced start-up and fully on-site 5 days per week, please do not apply Senior Staff Accountant This role will play a key part in managing daily accounting operations, supporting the month-end close process, and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. You’ll be hands-on in areas such as accounts payable, invoice processing, and expense management, while also contributing to building the infrastructure of an evolving finance department. Month-End Close & Accounting Operations Lead month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis. Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure compliance with GAAP. Prepare and review account reconciliations for cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts. Support consolidation and intercompany activity across entities, if applicable. Assist in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules Accounts Payable & Invoice Processing
Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including vendor setup, invoice coding, processing, and approval workflows. Match invoices to receipts and purchase orders to ensure accuracy and compliance. Maintain vendor records and ensure timely payments and issue resolution. Partner with relevant teams to optimize AP processes and improve expense tracking. Process Improvement & Systems
Help build and document new accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Identify and implement process improvements to accelerate close timelines and enhance accuracy. Support ERP and accounting system optimization efforts to streamline workflows. Collaborate with the Controller on implementing new accounting systems, policies, and controls. Assist with departmental projects and day-to-day operational needs. Audit & Compliance
Prepare supporting documentation for external audits, tax filings, and other compliance requirements. Ensure proper documentation of accounting policies and adherence to internal controls. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Controller and FP&A to ensure accurate expense classification, accruals, and variance explanations. Collaborate with People and Operations teams to reconcile personnel, benefits, and employee reimbursements. Provide ad hoc analysis and reporting to support management and decision-making. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CPA track preferred. 3–6 years of relevant accounting experience (public accounting or startup/technology experience a plus). Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and accrual-based accounting. Experience with accounts payable and invoice processing workflows. Proficiency with accounting systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Intacct) and advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
