Job Summary:
MedStar Health is looking for a Patient Care Technician to join our rehabilitation team. The Technician works under the supervision of a registered nurse to provide direct patient care activities for assigned patients and their families/significant others. Responsibilities include assisting nursing, medical, and therapy staff with procedures and tests, supporting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), and performing specific care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) catheter insertion, electrocardiography (EKG), and documenting care in the health record.
Primary Duties
Assists patients with ADLs (hygiene, mobility, feeding, toileting, rehabilitation exercises) and supports patient transfers and use of assistive devices.
Performs venipuncture/phlebotomy, collects specimens, obtains EKGs, and assists with IV catheter care; accurately records vital signs and point‑of‑care testing.
Assists with wound care, catheter care, tube feedings, oxygen equipment, and application of casts, splints, and traction; provides post‑mortem care and ensures proper patient transport.
Maintains a clean, safe patient environment, stocks supplies, transports patients, and participates in staff meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED (required).
Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program (required).
1–2 years’ experience as a certified nursing assistant (required).
Experience as a care technician (preferred).
General health care experience in acute care, long‑term care, or other settings (preferred).
Student nurse in junior or senior year (preferred).
Compensation USD $19.17 – $33.08 /hr.
