Senior Botanist On-Call

– Sacramento, San Francisco & Northern CA What You Will Do
Conduct small to large-scale field surveys for vegetation mapping, wetland delineation, and rare plants Collect and synthesize data in the field Maintain close communication with project manager and co-workers Work alone or in groups; direct a small to large number of individuals in the field Walk on uneven and sometimes steep terrain in a variety of plant communities and landforms. On occasion, excavate using hand tools to a depth of 18 inches. Ability to conduct field surveys wearing a backpack or carrying up to 20 pounds of gear during field surveys. What You Must Have
BS in Botany, Biology, or Ecology; MS or higher preferred 5+ years of experience conducting botanical surveys and wetland delineations Must have valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check What We’d Like You To Have
MS in Botany, Biology, or Ecology California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM) trained Knowledge of special-status plant species and wetland guidance and regulations Strong knowledge of California flora and taxonomy Experience using dichotomous keys and applying federal, state, and local agency guidelines to identify plant specimens, vegetation communities, and wetland types Construction monitoring experience Experience managing or leading staff in biological or wetland projects Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, including ability to identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to be flexible to handle multiple priorities and to work limited overtime as necessary Familiarity with GPS mapping technology Working at ICF
