About The Job MedStar Health and the MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute (MHVI) invite applications for a full-time Academic Cardiologist at the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital with a clinical focus on caring for patients in the kidney and liver transplant program.

About The Opportunity This position is dedicated to providing cardiovascular expertise for the high-volume Solid Organ Transplant Program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, which includes liver, kidney, pancreas, and other solid organ transplants. The program is one of the largest and most respected in the country, serving as a major referral center for complex cases.

The Successful Candidate Will

Provide comprehensive cardiovascular care for solid organ (kidney, liver, etc.) transplant candidates and recipients, including pre-transplant evaluation, perioperative management, and long-term post-transplant follow-up.

Collaborate within a multidisciplinary transplant team of hepatologists, nephrologists, anesthesiologists, surgeons, intensivists, and other specialists.

Serve as a key liaison between cardiology and transplant services, ensuring optimal outcomes in a complex, high-acuity patient population.

Care for clinical cardiology patients, participate in the inpatient cardiology service, and read cardiac imaging studies (e.g. echocardiography).

Diagnostic catheterization competency is optional (opportunities available).

Participate actively in teaching and mentorship of residents, fellows, and students.

Engage in clinical research and scholarly activity related to transplant cardiology, with access to institutional support through the MedStar Health Research Institute.

Qualifications

MD or DO degree with board certification/eligibility in Cardiovascular Disease

Eligible for medical licensure in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia

Demonstrated excellence in clinical care with a strong interest in academic medicine

Track record (or strong potential) in research or teaching
