Private Client Services at BDO is a boutique practice that serves high net‑worth individuals, families, family offices, C‑Suite executives, athletes, entertainers, and others with complex tax and financial structures.

Job Summary A Tax Manager, Private Client Services provides tax compliance and consulting services to high net‑worth clients, leveraging a high‑touch approach and strong technical expertise.

Responsibilities

Manage tax and consulting engagements, identifying client needs, tax planning, and consulting opportunities.

Work directly with clients and their advisors to gather information for tax returns.

Review individual, trust, estate, S‑Corp, foundation, partnership, and gift tax returns, providing written and verbal feedback to staff and interns.

Direct communication with government agencies on complex matters.

Identify technical issues, conduct advanced tax research, and develop recommendations for PCM leadership.

Develop knowledge of tax concepts through client engagements and current tax developments.

Prioritize and complete tasks individually and within a team.

Assist with firm and PCS contribution responsibilities, including billing, recruiting, training, and participation in CPE activities.

Build new relationships and maintain existing relationships with BDO professionals and external sources.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise associates and senior associates on all projects.

Review work prepared by associates and senior associates and provide review comments.

Train associates and seniors on current software tools.

Act as a career advisor to associates and senior associates.

Schedule and manage workload of associates and senior associates.

Provide verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.

Education & Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Accountancy or Taxation.

Required: Five (5) or more years of experience in accounting, finance, or law.

Preferred: Experience in public accounting or private client services.

License / Certifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA), attorney admitted in a U.S. jurisdiction, or equivalent designation.

Other relevant professional degrees or certifications preferred.

Software Proficiency

Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat – required.

Tax compliance process software (GoSystems, BNA Tax Planner, GoFileRoom, SurePrep) – preferred.

Tax research tools (BNA Portfolio, CCH IntelliConnect, Checkpoint, LexisNexis) – preferred.

Languages

No language requirement.

Salary California: $112,000 – $150,000 Colorado: $111,500 – $130,000 Illinois: $105,000 – $130,000 Maryland: $113,000 – $120,000 Massachusetts: $120,000 – $127,000 Minnesota: $90,000 – $120,000 New Jersey: $115,000 – $140,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $125,000 – $160,000 Washington: $110,000 – $125,000 Washington D.C.: $120,000 – $140,000
