Position Summary The Plastics Process & Quality Engineer is responsible for optimizing and standardizing extrusion processes for plastic sheet and film production while leading quality improvement and continuous improvement initiatives. This role combines deep technical expertise in extrusion processing with quality engineering, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance product quality, throughput, and cost efficiency. The engineers will develop and implement process controls, train personnel, and drive a culture of operational excellence and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and optimize extrusion process parameters, control plans, PFMEA, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Lead safety and quality initiatives to ensure compliance with company, customer, and regulatory standards.

Drive Lean and Six Sigma projects (DMAIC/DMADV) to reduce scrap, improve cycle times, and enhance overall product consistency.

Partner with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to troubleshoot process issues (e.g., dimensional variation, surface defects, die buildup).

Conduct internal audits and process reviews to identify improvement opportunities and ensure adherence to ISO/IATF standards.

Provide technical training and mentorship to operators and engineers on extrusion processes, SPC, and continuous improvement tools.

Lead process and material development for new product launches and qualification trials.

Analyze process data to identify trends and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve equipment performance and preventive maintenance strategies.

Qualifications

Nice-to-have - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Polymer, Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or related field).

3–5+ years of experience in plastics extrusion and/or manufacturing quality engineering.

Knowledge of extrusion processes, materials, and equipment operation.

Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma (Black Belt preferred).

Proficient in SPC, FMEA, Minitab, and other statistical or quality tools.

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Proven ability to train, coach, and lead cross-functional teams.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and technical documentation.

Salary $100,000 - $130,000 (commensurate with experience and interviewing results).
