Communications Officer – Yale University
Serve as the Communications Officer for the Department of Anesthesiology at Yale University.
Develop and produce strategic content that promotes the department’s research, education, and clinical programs to internal and external audiences.
Report directly to the Administrative Operations Manager.
Salary $65,000 – $101,000 per year.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, coordinate, and implement a communications strategy for the Department of Anesthesiology.
Maintain the department website and all digital and social media platforms, ensuring new content is regularly added.
Prepare articles, images, and short announcements for the content management system.
Copy‑edit, proof‑read, and write engaging content suitable for web and non‑web distribution.
Support media relations, collaborating with media representatives, university publications, and the Office of Public Affairs.
Gather and analyze analytics to inform content decisions and report outcomes.
Build and maintain relationships with faculty and other departmental stakeholders to develop and distribute content.
Manage external vendors and student workers as needed for content production.
Required Skills & Experience
Excellent written, verbal, and organizational communication skills.
Proficiency with web/intranet content management systems, HTML, and social media platforms (e.g., Brandwatch).
Experience with Salesforce, survey‑building tools, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva (or similar image‑editing software).
Familiarity with desktop‑publishing and layout programs such as Adobe Creative Suite and ability to learn new technologies, including Yale School of Medicine’s content management platform Beatrix.
Experience developing, disseminating, and maintaining web content, and using analytics to guide content decisions.
Strong ability to develop relationships with faculty and departmental stakeholders.
Significant experience or strong interest in science and medicine content.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Master’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.
Proficiency with video‑editing software and graphic‑design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience with content‑management systems (e.g., Drupal, WordPress) and social‑media platforms.
Background in higher‑education or healthcare communications.
Strong project‑management experience, including oversight of web and social‑media content creation and maintenance.
