PT Mental Health Professional – Laramie, WY
CorrHealth is looking for a PT Mental Health Professional to provide mental health services in a correctional facility in Laramie, WY. This is a part‑time, 8‑hour per week, on‑site position.
Position Overview Effectively applies mental health expertise and clinical skills to deliver Mental Health Services to inmates or clients, achieving optimal care and significant therapeutic outcomes.
Essential Job Duties
Conduct intakes, evaluations, and/or assessments for (i) inmates referred by security, healthcare, or community staff and (ii) inmates who request mental health services; make referrals to nursing services based on reported symptoms.
Identify mental health symptoms and treatment needs, and recommend special housing or watch when necessary.
Coordinate closely with MDs, Prescribers, Psychiatrists, and other staff to ensure evaluation and care of patients.
Identify, recommend, and conduct non‑pharmacological treatments when appropriate.
Provide mental health crisis and suicide intervention and management for the facility.
Provide clinical supervision and treatment plans for inmates on caseload.
Monitor conditions and treatment needs of special inmate populations.
Provide staff training in relevant mental health issues.
Attend regular treatment team multidisciplinary meetings, classification meetings, or other required administrative meetings and participate in CQI and/or QA studies and group sessions.
Provide treatment services in all areas of the facility.
Provide consultation to security and healthcare staff regarding patient behavior, safety concerns, or other mental health concerns.
Provide linkage and/or discharge planning services when necessary.
Document services and encounters appropriately and accurately, ensuring accessibility of notes for staff and maintaining organized, legible records.
Participate in treatment programming and planning discussions of problem cases, follow‑up and monitoring of medication, and general psychiatric input when applicable.
Initiate involuntary hospitalization for inmates who need to be transferred to outside mental health facilities; generate appropriate paperwork.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Master’s level education: MA in Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
Required licensure: LCPC, LPCC, LPC, LCSW, LMSW, LMHC, LMFT, LAC, or LSW.
Additional Duties
Correctional mental health experience is preferred.
Competencies
Clear and effective verbal and written communication with coworkers, supervisors, jail administration, and patients.
Excellent verbal and written comprehension.
Excellent deductive reasoning and problem‑solving abilities.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to use a computer and learn site‑specific software.
Demonstrated ability to safely use standard medical equipment.
Respect for the dignity and confidentiality of inmates.
Employment Requirements
Maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc. for this position.
Maintain current CPR/BLS certification.
Provide current TB test (taken within one year).
Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and the Employee Handbook.
Assist coworkers with job duties and work overtime as required; act as a resource to other coworkers.
Maintain confidentiality, dignity, and security of health records and protected health information in compliance with HIPAA.
Security Requirements
Undergo security training and orientation on facility safety policies and procedures.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Remain stationary and move/traverse the facility, including stair flights.
Position oneself in different spaces.
Communicate accurately with patients and discern information in conversation.
Identify and detect objects and assess situations from various distances.
Remain calm in stressful, demanding situations.
Frequently transport objects up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment Work is performed inside a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to potential risk and harm from inmates, including exposure to blood‑borne pathogens. Employees must follow all security rules and regulations to minimize risk.
