Pay Range:

Responsibilities
Administrative Functions: Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing day-to-day nursing activities in accordance with rules, regulations, and guidelines for the long term care facility. Develop, maintain, and update written policies and procedures for the nursing service department. Ensure reference material at nurses\' stations is current. Recommend materials to assist the nursing service department in meeting resident needs. Ensure the Nursing Service Procedures Manual is current and reflects daily nursing procedures. Ensure staff compliance with Nursing Service Procedures Manual. Provide written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director as needed. Periodically review policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, and coordinate nursing services with other resident services for continuity of care. Review resident discharge plans and assist in updating as required. Plan the nursing services portion of the resident\'s discharge plan. Collaborate with staff to plan services, programs, and activities. Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required. Complete accident/incident reports as necessary. Interpret policies to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, studies, and charting as necessary. Maintain security of user ID/password information and protect resident information.
Committee Functions: Attend facility committee meetings (e.g., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Quality Assessment, etc.). Prepare reports for committees and provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee. Participate in Care Plan Committee agenda development and discharge plan reviews. Implement committee recommendations as directed.
Personnel Functions: Ensure adequate staffing of licensed nurses and CNAs for each shift. Develop and assign work tasks; delegate authority to Charge Nurses. Ensure staff are enrolled in approved nursing assistant training programs. Supervise and evaluate staff, address complaints, and maintain interdepartmental cooperation. Maintain a warm, calm unit environment and participate in ongoing staff development and performance evaluations. Enforce policies, including dress codes, and manage incident reporting. Ensure safety, security, and privacy policies are followed.
Nursing Care Functions: Inform staff of admissions; prepare rooms; greet and escort new residents. Make rounds with physicians, ensure timely physician notes and orders, and maintain timely communication with residents, families, and physicians. Plan and review resident care with residents, families, and physicians; observe daily status of residents; ensure direct care is provided by qualified staff; start IVs and collect specimens as ordered; admit/transfer/discharge residents; monitor and report problems. Ensure compliance with medication administration procedures and treatment schedules; inspect care areas daily; respond to resident needs; coordinate transportation for discharges; notify families of deaths and coordinate funeral services as needed.
Staff Development: Plan and conduct in-service training; assist in developing annual facility in-service programs (OSHA, HIPAA, Safety, Infection Control, etc.). Support clinical supervision for nurse aides and pursue ongoing education.
Safety and Sanitation: Assist in developing safety standards; ensure staff complete in-service training for exposure to blood/body fluids; maintain PPE stock; enforce hand hygiene; participate in infection control programs; implement procedures for reporting hazardous conditions; ensure safe operation of equipment; maintain clean and sanitary work and resident areas; participate in fire drills and disaster preparedness.
Equipment and Supply Functions: Advise on equipment and supply needs; maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies; support preventive maintenance and safe operation of equipment; ensure only trained personnel operate equipment; manage waste and resource use; maintain MSDS records for hazardous chemicals.
Care Plan and Assessment Functions: Develop resident assessments and care plans; involve residents in plan development; review and revise care plans; ensure staff refer to care plans; assist in planning and scheduling MDS activities; ensure care aligns with resident plans.
Budget and Planning Functions: Monitor economic conditions and recommend adjustments to sustain quality care; identify equipment needs; report potential fraud related to billing and cost reports.
Supervisory Requirements: Assist with supervision and management of nursing staff; RN authority and accountability for assigned duties.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience: Nursing degree from an accredited college or university; training in rehabilitative/restorative nursing practices; 2+ years of experience, preferably in a long-term care facility.
Licenses/Certifications: Current, active RN license; CPR certification; knowledge of PCC preferred; maintain required continuing education/licensing; good standing with State Board of Nursing.
Language: Able to read, write, speak, and understand English; able to read technical procedures and policy manuals; able to present information to managers and staff.
Mathematical and Reasoning: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios; make independent decisions and solve practical problems; ability to supervise and coordinate with others; plan and interpret programs and procedures for quality care.
Physical Demands: Able to move, speak, and write; able to cope with stress; may push/pull/move 25 pounds, etc.; medical clearance required.
