This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners. Job Summary
The IT Advanced Project Manager exists to manage complex information technology projects that enable the development, enhancement, or retirement of statewide IT and business solutions. Projects may involve technologies spanning MNIT’s enterprise infrastructure, shared services, systems, and applications that support critical agency and statewide business operations. The IT Advanced Project Manager leads all phases of project delivery—from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, and closure—using industry best practices and MNIT’s established project management methodologies based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). The incumbent ensures consistency and quality in project execution through effective planning, scope and risk management, scheduling, communication, and stakeholder engagement to deliver successful outcomes that meet business objectives. Projects assigned to this position are typically complex and high-impact, requiring coordination across multiple business areas or technical domains. The incumbent provides leadership to project teams, mentors less experienced project managers, and contributes to continuous improvement of MNIT’s project management practices. The position requires an employee to be onsite at 600 North Robert St. Saint Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements. Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience in performing IT project management functions. Experience must include: Applying Agile, Waterfall, and/or Iterative project management methodologies to plan and deliver IT projects. Leading, advising, assisting, and/or reviewing the work of project staff or team members. Performing project planning, scheduling, scope, cost, and risk management, as well as status reporting, change control, and issue resolution using standard project management tools and practices. Knowledge of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and its application to IT project delivery. Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties. Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving. A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.
