Job purpose : The Senior Facilities and Utilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and strategic planning of all facilities and utility systems within a dairy manufacturing plant. This role ensures compliance with food safety standards, optimizes energy and resource usage, and supports production uptime. The manager also leads the Parts Room Department and is accountable for developing and auditing a preventive maintenance (PM) program for utilities equipment within the CMMS.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of buildings, grounds, and infrastructure.
Manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
Monitor and optimize usage of electricity, water, gas, HVAC, and waste systems.
Ammonia/Glycol refrigeration experience a plus.
Lead energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability programs.
Coordinate with utility providers and regulatory bodies.
Proven experience managing the utilities department.
Supervise the Parts Room Department, ensuring accurate inventory tracking and availability of essential parts.
Implement inventory control systems and reorder processes to minimize downtime.
Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to forecast parts demand and reduce waste.
Responsible for part room cycle count.
Strategic Planning
Develop long-term facilities and utilities strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Lead capital improvement projects, renovations, and expansions.
Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and cost-control measures.
Responsible for the department's performance, including DDS and 90-day plan strategy.
Supervise facilities staff, engineers, and contractors.
Provide training, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Negotiate and manage service contracts for maintenance, security, cleaning, and utilities.
Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met and quality standards upheld.
Develop and implement emergency response and disaster recovery plans.
Coordinate with security and safety teams for incident management.
Skills/qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or related field.
10+ years of experience in facilities and utilities management, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
Strong knowledge of building systems, energy management, and regulatory compliance.
Experience managing inventory systems and parts logistics.
Proficiency in CMMS, BMS, and sustainability reporting tools.
Excellent leadership, communication, administrative and project management skills.
Proven experience managing a departmental budget including PO's.
Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
Proficiency in English: Comfortable with both written and verbal communication, including reading and writing.
Working conditions and physical requirements
8-10 hours sitting/standing/walking
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Exposure to hazards (machinery, confined spaces, etc.).
Food safety requirements
Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.
Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy in Production Areas.
Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.

Base pay Base pay range: $150,000—$170,000 USD
