Under direction, to coordinate the transportation system for County Behavioral Health clients; to ensure proper maintenance of the Department vehicle fleet; to schedule and co-ordinate Driver work assignments; and to do related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a specialized Transport Supervisor classification. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination and supervision of Behavioral Health Department client transportation, as well as being on-call to provide direct transporting services for scheduled and unscheduled trips. An on-call assignment may occur at any time on any day of the week.

REPORTS TO Behavioral Health Program Supervisor, Substance Abuse Program Manager

CLASSIFICATIONS SUPERVISED Drivers assigned to the Behavioral Health Department Transport Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Schedules and coordinates transporting staff and on-call personnel for transporting of Behavioral Health Department clients; prioritizes needs and assigns drivers and routes; interviews, supervises, and provides general direction for Drivers; schedules rotation of transport staff availability, including on-call availability to accept assignments; monitors the maintenance of Department motor pool vehicles, arranging for servicing and repairs, as appropriate; monitors, reviews, and authorizes Driver's time cards, meal reimbursement claims, and time reporting; provides direct transportation services for clients, including performance of on-call duty as needed; performs special projects such as waste recycling, transport of confidential papers, and monitoring the use of the Department credit cards and cell-phones.

Training and Experience Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Four years of experience providing transportation services, preferably including two years in a supervisory capacity.

Special Requirements Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver's License with appropriate passenger endorsement, if necessary.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye‑hand coordination; lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, calculator, copiers, and FAX.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in office and driving environments; may work outdoors in varying temperatures; continuous contact with other staff and the public; work may involve stressful situations that include dealing with erratic and sometimes threatening behavior.
