Summary This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. It is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or designee and performs janitorial and custodial services at the VA Medical Center located in Jesse Brown VA Medical Center.
Qualifications Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement (11/07/2025).
Qualifications are evaluated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System, using job elements to match applicant skills with required work.
Applicable qualifications include experience, knowledge, and skills relevant to custodial duties, and may incorporate volunteer work.
Physical effort requirements include continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing, often with heavy powered cleaning equipment.
Work conditions are mainly indoors but may include outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Housekeeping Aid (HKA) - Environmental Services (EVS) Technician maintains VA facilities for Veterans and their families.
Performs a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping tasks.
Kept patient areas clean and safe by addressing spills, discarding trash, installing light bulbs, vacuuming, and polishing floors.
Clears wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, and shower rooms of dirt and debris.
Sweep, mop, scrub floors (machine), vacuum carpets, clean light globes, Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows, ceilings, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers, and move furniture.
Carries out assignments with minimal supervision and may be promoted to full performance level when all qualifications are met.
Work schedule varies; examples include 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm Wednesday–Saturday, weekends, and holidays as required.
Positions are part of a 24/7 operation and may involve compressed or flexible schedules.
