Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Secondary Assistant Coach will help in running an intercollegiate sports program at Emerson College. The Assistant Coach will be responsible for developing student‑athletes, scouting teams, breaking down game film and assisting in the organization and facilitation of practice and games.
Essential Job Duties
Assists the head coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team training and match competition.
Assist in monitoring and coordinating training and practice sessions.
Ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
Provides day-to-day guidance, assistance, and support to other assistant coaches on coaching training sessions and the techniques of individual players.
Aids in coordinating and administering the overall program, as required.
Represents Emerson College and the athletic department to various institutional programs and externally to the media, students, parents, and the general public.
Assist with coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop players' technical ability and team tactical solutions.
Analyze the performance of our team, individual players, and our opponents.
Provide leadership and instruction to improve the team and the individual player.
Mentor student‑athletes to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth
Monitor the progress of prospective players during the application process.
Assist in coordinating and organizing potential players' on-campus visits.
Assists with some aspects of the recruitment and retention of a diverse set prospective student athletes.
Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree preferred
0 - 2 years of coaching experience at the post‑secondary level, professional competitive experience or college playing experience required
A valid driver’s license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of technical skills and tactical strategy and the ability to effectively teach them and communicate with players.
Working knowledge of NCAA and NEWMAC rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them.
The coach must be self‑directed, motivated and able to work independently and under pressure.
Commitment to being a positive member of the Athletics Department, the College community and the ability to influence the athletes to do the same.
Physical Abilities
Ability to sit or stand for long periods
Ability to concentrate for short and long periods of time
Work Environment
Willingness to travel, work nights and weekends is a must.
Warm up team on match day to play competitively
