Field Electrical Engineer - Entry level (100% travel)
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for an Electrical Engineer in their Vancouver, Washington location. This position is part of the Test and Energization (TETC) organization within the Commissioning & Testing group of the Transmission Services business line. The role involves on‑site engineering and project assistance for substation construction projects across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
This is a one‑year renewable contract that includes employee benefits and requires 100% travel.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of a senior commissioning engineer, perform testing of substation equipment such as power circuit breakers, transformers, and static capacitors.
Conduct verification of CT/PT ratio, CT polarity, transformer impedance, power factor for transformers, timing of power circuit breakers, and insulation voltage withstand tests.
With instruction from the lead engineer, test substation control equipment, including protective relaying, SCADA, microwave radio, transfer trip, and PLCs.
Support the design, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems by checking rack wiring and cables.
Operate computer‑assisted engineering and design software under the direction of a Lead Engineer.
Gather information to create electrical drawings, reports, and calculations that support engineering solutions.
Assist the lead engineer in coordinating construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, or testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
Perform detailed calculations to establish construction and installation standards and specifications with Lead Engineer approval.
Assist in inspection of completed installations and verification of operations to maintain conformance to design and equipment specifications and safety standards.
Provide troubleshooting and on‑site technical support to craft/customer personnel as directed.
Collaborate with design staff during engineering phases to understand design philosophy and provide field information/valid requirements.
Apply diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices across broad assignments.
Facilitate on‑site projects, including requesting outages through an outage coordinator and verifying material arrival.
Maintain documents, filing systems, files, emails, and records in accordance with compliance requirements.
Requirements / Qualifications
U.S. citizenship and a valid U.S. driver’s license.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school (graduates within 3 months are considered).
Minimum of 6 months of experience with electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to regional transmission systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Willingness and ability to travel up to 100% throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
