Overview
Pediatric Float Team Physician Assistant-PCS Advanced Practice Providers To provide independent advanced practice provider clinical expertise to patients and their families on an ongoing basis. This includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical, specialty and standard practice protocols in accordance with the PA practice agreement. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions are independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. PAs are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents and other ancillary staff.

Department/Role Context UC Davis Health is at the forefront of incorporating Advanced Practice Providers (APP) as part of interprofessional care teams to support increasing numbers of complex care patients. APPs are vital parts of the multidisciplinary hospital based teams caring for our patients in specialty care throughout the UC Davis Health system.
Responsibilities and Scope The Pediatric Float Team PA role will include caring for inpatient pediatric patients across surgical and medical services, both ICU and ward level care. The PA will be expected to order medications and diagnostic testing, interpret laboratory values and diagnostic test results safely and appropriately. In addition, the role will include: consultation with other providers; communication with patients and families; admission/transfer/discharge planning; documentation of care including daily progress notes and procedure notes. With appropriate credentials and privileges, the PA may also perform invasive procedures within their defined scope of practice. The PA will also provide education to patients, family members, and medical providers including nursing staff and allied health team members. PAs may participate in the design and implementation of research and/or quality improvement studies within the Children’s Hospital.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

California Licensed Physician Assistant (PA)
National PA board certification in an aligned specialty with the practice area
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 7 days of hire
Master’s degree or PhD from an accredited PA program, or completion of certified PA training from an accredited program
Two (2) or more years of recent experience working in acute care pediatrics as a PA
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Judgement, self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role
Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a PA in a PICU or PCICU and Pediatric Surgery is highly desirable
