Senior Engineer, Active Chassis Calibration
Scout Motors is building the future of electric vehicles with a focus on rugged SUVs and trucks. We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Active Chassis Calibration to lead development, calibration and validation of electronic drivetrain and chassis control systems to meet ride, steering, handling, stability, and braking performance for an emerging EV market.
Responsibilities
Lead the development, calibration and validation for electronic drivetrain and chassis control systems including (but not limited to): All Wheel Drive Torque Distribution, Brake Torque Vectoring, Driver Steering Recommendation, Drag Torque Regulation, Drive Slip Regulation.
Perform fully autonomous hands-on calibration of customer-focused chassis control systems to meet performance requirements.
Define calibration methodologies, best practices and requirement specifications in a new E-architecture from scratch.
Establish, manage and track functional and performance requirements as a single point of contact from initial concept through final validated version for serial production.
Carry out in-depth analysis of software documentation and feature labels to ensure clarity and alignment with product functionality.
Analyze and optimize chassis and propulsion feature sets for performance, efficiency and diagnostics.
Conduct simulation and real-world testing to evaluate the performance of electronic chassis control systems in normal, adverse, and emergency scenarios.
Perform in-vehicle limit handling on high-friction, low-friction and off-road driving environments across various test locations.
Develop and execute plans to meet program milestones, regulatory requirements and a successful launch.
Collaborate with other concept and systems architect teams to solve engineering and functional challenges.
Mentor and guide junior engineers in calibration processes, requirement management and development strategies.
Represent the company in technical discussions with suppliers and industry partners.
Contribute ideas and pursue new projects beyond calibration scope when appropriate.
Coordinate and collaborate with suppliers on integration and validation plans and activities.
Support the Chassis Testing & Tuning team as needed, including tasks outside the chassis scope.
Location & Travel Expectations
This role will be based at the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan.
Attendance in the office with in-person meetings and events is required.
Travel domestically and internationally as needed, approximately 30% of the time. Valid driver’s license and passport required.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an engineering field.
8+ years of experience in vehicle concept engineering or serial development, including calibration and validation of software functions and calibration tools (ETAS and MATLAB).
Ability to read and understand Simulink flow diagrams and C-programming source code.
Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, driving behavior evaluations, chassis control theory, and ECUs.
A passion for vehicle operation and performance, especially in truck and off-road development.
Experience mentoring junior engineers and teaching complex content with clarity.
Experience with electric vehicles or hybrid propulsion systems.
Proven experience in requirement setting and management for vehicle control functions.
Experience with ISO26262 and functional safety standards.
Vehicle limit handling driving abilities and documentation (SAE, TRC, OEM-specific licensing).
Advanced project steering and coordination skills for independent project management.
Knowledge of module and zonal vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay).
Hands-on in-vehicle testing on public roads, proving grounds and test tracks.
Motivation to work at the cutting edge of electric vehicle design and hands-on testing.
Flexibility for domestic and international travel as needed.
Strong interpersonal skills, ownership, self-motivation, problem solving, innovation and communication.
Valid driver’s license required; passport required.

Pay and Notice This is a full-time, exempt position with base salary and eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Initial base salary range: $130,000.00 – $160,000.00. Internal leveling code: IC8.
