Gateway L2/L3 Deputy Flight Software System – Space Systems Are you passionate about solving complex problems? Join our dynamic team as a Gateway L2/L3 Deputy Flight Software System and become a vital contributor to support NASA as an Oceaneering Teammate on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. You will be part of the Software Engineering II & Dev Ops section in the Engineering Department on the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) Contract. This role provides the opportunity to engage in human spaceflight and deep space exploration programs, contributing to services that meet and strive to exceed standards and expectations. You will work with a team dedicated to excellence in innovation. We are seeking someone with a keen eye for detail, a strong commitment to owning their work, and the ability to communicate effectively across a diverse organization. Some schedule flexibility may be available (e.g., straight time overtime, 9/80 schedule, telework). Duties and Responsibilities
The HALO Flight Software Deputy Software System will support the HALO Flight Software System Manager in leading the design, development, integration, verification, and certification of the HALO spacecraft flight software system. Coordinate across multiple NASA centers, contractors, and engineering disciplines to ensure flight software products meet mission performance, reliability, and safety objectives. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications
REQUIRED Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a closely related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the field or in a related area. Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as VxWorks, RTEMS, or Linux-based embedded systems. Knowledge of NASA or DoD flight software life cycle processes, including software certification, verification, and validation (V&V). Experience supporting software integration and testing on flight hardware and integrated simulation environments. Understanding of requirements management, design trades, risk analysis, and system interaction in a systems engineering environment. Proficiency with requirements and configuration management tools (e.g., DOORS, JIRA, Git, or similar). Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills to engage a wide range of technical disciplines and project stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate technical efforts involving multiple teams or contractors. PREFERRED Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline. Experience with NASA JSC Engineering Life Cycle and certification processes for flight software or flight hardware systems. Prior involvement in NASA flight programs. Experience in Human Rated / Fault Tolerant Flight Software Subsystems. Knowledge of NASA flight software frameworks. Familiarity with Space Wire, 1553, Ethernet, Time Triggered Ethernet, and data handling architectures. Experience with verification and validation planning and execution at the system and subsystem level. Ability to prepare high-quality technical documentation and presentations for internal and NASA-level design and certification reviews. Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency may be a requirement for this position. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
