Job Summary The Surgical Nurse Practitioner (NP) collaborates with a multidisciplinary health‑care team to provide care in ambulatory and acute settings. The NP manages surgical patients through pre‑operative, peri‑operative, and post‑operative phases, demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, professionalism, and ensures compliant documentation.

Full‑Time
Nights
3‑13 Hour Shifts Per Week, rotating weekends
Inpatient coverage; No OR time
Department Summary The Neurosurgery program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center delivers internationally acclaimed patient care, research, and training. We treat a wide spectrum of neurological conditions including brain tumors, spinal disorders, and neuro‑muscular diseases.
Key Responsibilities
Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents a complete, system‑focused examination, assessment, and plan of care.
Provides primary, acute, and complex care, managing patient overall care and expected outcomes.
Orders, performs, interprets, and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures.
Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
Prescribes therapeutic interventions, pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, and surgical as appropriate.
Utilizes evidence‑based practice protocols for care planning and implementation.
Initiates referrals and consultations within scope of practice.
Facilitates patient transition between health‑care settings.
Technical Capabilities
Advanced knowledge of health systems, clinical practice, patient‑centered care, scholarly inquiry, communication, and professionalism.
Qualifications
Tennessee license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant.
Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP) or Acute Care NP (ACNP) certification.
PhD or equivalent is a plus.
