The Assistant Store Manager promotes a sales culture built around GameStop’s business model, ensuring products are visible and easy to purchase while building loyalty through expert guest service. The role also supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

Provide best‑in‑class guest service: promptly greet guests, respond to questions or concerns quickly and courteously, inform guests of specials, recommend additional items, and thank every guest for shopping.

Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that drive sales and repeat business.

Accurately process guest purchases/return transactions using the POS system via PC keyboard, making correct change, packaging merchandise, providing receipts, and ensuring excellent guest service.

Respond to guest comments or questions in person or by phone; answer calls promptly with professional courtesy; and, when appropriate, elevate customer issues or complaints to the Store Manager.

Promote GameStop’s unique guest benefits, e.g., new title reservations, trade‑in program, and Pro Rewards guest loyalty program.

Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations and training store associates in all aspects of their responsibilities, including company/store policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Observe associate performance; provide timely feedback to the Store Manager; address unsatisfactory performance as directed, ensuring all associates align with company and store guest service expectations.

Provide timely recognition and feedback to all store associates concerning performance; regularly input written feedback for each associate into Workday or HR service management system in partnership with the Store Manager.

Ensure store associates have completed all onboarding, job training, and compliance training prior to operating shifts; associates should know all aspects of their jobs, including policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety best practices, financial protocol, and ethical responsibilities.

In partnership with the Store Manager, schedule store associates, ensuring scheduling guidelines are followed and all breaks and meals are accounted for.

Approve payroll entries and paid time off; verify that store associates are paid for all time worked.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of all store areas, including restrooms, and keep fixtures and equipment in proper working order.

Ensure Omni‑Channel orders are fulfilled and shipped daily.

Protect company assets through effective inventory control and loss prevention practices; visually inspect associates’ packages or belongings at closing or shift end; communicate concerns to the Store Manager.

Support store team in exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals and complete required admin and operational duties.

Perform store inventory counts, stock/restock merchandise on shelves and fixtures, and move products from the stock room to the front of the store to represent all products on the sales floor.

Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transaction totals correctly and accurately in the POS system; ensure adequate cash and change; make bank deposits daily or as established.

Verify all shipments for discrepancies or shortages; record discrepancies in the POS system; conduct merchandise counts/inventories and communicate discrepancies to the Store Manager/District Manager.

Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls accurately and promptly, ensuring boxes are labeled properly with packing lists.

Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety; identify and address hazardous situations; report injuries promptly per company guidelines.

Assist in maintaining store records/files neatly and organized; ensure manuals are up to date.

Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.

Consistently adhere to GameStop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and the Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.

Adhere to all opening and closing procedures.

Qualifications

Provide proof of identity and eligibility to work legally in the United States.

Must be at least 18 years old.

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or accredited bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.

At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.

At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred.

Video game knowledge preferred.

Work alone, stand, and move throughout the store unassisted for up to 12 hours per day.

Lift merchandise weighing up to 30 lbs. from the ground to at least 4 feet; perform basic fine and gross motor skills.

Acquire an understanding of military ranks and insignia for positions located on military bases (only applicable).
