Responsibilities
Join a collaborative team to design and implement curriculum that nurtures students\' academic growth, teaching five sections of science, primarily Upper School Chemistry; also serves as an academic advisor to a cohort of 12-14 upper school students and contributes to the Science, Mathematics, and Technology Department.
Develop and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials, prioritizing active learning methods, preferably utilizing the Understanding By Design model.
Utilize appropriate technology to enhance and personalize instruction.
Maintain a conducive classroom environment by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Engage in departmental, school, and parent meetings; communicate student progress and needs to students, colleagues, and parents; set clear objectives and provide feedback.
Demonstrate proficiency in working with students from diverse backgrounds; engage in ongoing professional development; fulfill assigned supervisory duties; foster effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders; demonstrate strong oral and written communication.
Exhibit commitment to continual professional growth and active participation in the school community.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
BA or BS in Secondary Science Education, Chemistry, related sciences, and/or FL secondary state certification
Completed or in-progress masters degree in science, chemistry or education is preferred; applicants with extensive, successful teaching experience are encouraged to apply.
AP teaching experience is preferred but not required.
Teaching experience, preferably in an Independent Upper School, or relevant classroom experience is recommended.
Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish objectives of the school program.
Exhibits excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; lifelong learner; pursues excellence; demonstrates enthusiasm for Miami Country Day School and its mission.
Demonstrates understanding of the needs of diverse constituencies and delivering an exemplary equitable experience to all students.
A good sense of humor, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic; knowledge and implementation of relevant technology; must be able to use computer for communication and instruction.
Physical requirements: able to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and equipment; may require lifting up to 30 pounds; able to work in varied weather conditions.
