A Public Safety Dispatcher (PSD) is responsible for maintaining communications between the Police Department and the public, as well as between officers in the field & other public safety employees and agencies. PSDs operate the UCPD communications center, a fully computerized environment and a 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). They must multi?task and prioritize according to department needs, while consistently following laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Responsibilities Receive calls for assistance and information, dispatch police, emergency medical aid and fire response, and provide related automated data search and entry. Monitor campus alarm systems, security cameras and provide customer service via telephone and at the departments main public counter after business hours. Assign and coordinate personnel and resources in response to emergency situations, in?progress crimes and other calls for service. Operate police radio, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, telephones and other law?enforcement telecommunications and computer systems. Research and report automated and hard copy records relating to public safety operations; maintain security of confidential records; compile and maintain resource files. Train and evaluate staff members in training?related duties (for designated trainers).

Required Qualifications

Completion of the POST?certified, 120?hour Public Safety Dispatchers Basic Course within 12 months of hire. Passing score on either the POST Written Dispatch test or the CritiCall Dispatch test. Successful background investigation, oral communication skills evaluation, 12?month probation and a medical examination. High school diploma or equivalent; equivalent experience / training and certification is acceptable.

Licenses & Certifications

Must complete the Public Safety Dispatchers Basic Course and obtain certification.

Salary & Benefits

This 100% full?time (40?hrs a week) non?exempt career position is paid hourly and eligible for UC Benefits. The budgeted hourly rate is $40.27 (step?1.0) $53.68 (step?6.0) with a $5,000 hiring bonus. How to Apply
