Overview

Title: Coach - Assistant Coach-HS Baseball Location: Washington HS The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a district serving approximately 22,000 students with 60+ languages spoken. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, ranked highly by US News. The district includes multiple elementary, middle, and high schools and employs about 4,000 staff including 1,800+ teachers. This description reflects the role and responsibilities for the Assistant Coach position.

Job Goal

Directly responsible to the head coach of a sport. The assistant coach is expected to exhibit total loyalty to the program, the head coach, and the other assistants at all times and to carry out assignments given by the head coach.

Essential Functions

Assist the head coach as directed with the following: organize and direct coaching staff; collect physical examination forms; collect insurance release forms; report injuries to the school nurse; take inventory and submit a list of equipment needs; check out and collect equipment; keep accurate records and reports of lost or stolen equipment; provide a roster of players. Provide the Athletic Director a list of athletes who are to receive awards at the end of the season and plan the awards ceremony. Ensure proper team conduct on trips and during contests; know all rules pertaining to the sport; treat injuries or attend to athletes; clean and maintain equipment and uniforms; organize practice sessions.

Qualifications

Certified teacher or must qualify for Rule 10 approval through the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

Communication / Organization

Maintains communication with school personnel and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action for students’ educational needs. Utilizes existing technology effectively in duties. Performs other related work as required.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Language Skills

Ability to read and analyze general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols; ability to present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, and the public.

Physical Demands

Regularly sit, walk, stand, and talk or hear. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; may push items such as a bike or wheelchair or move furniture. May visit a child’s home. Vision requirements include close, distance, and depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.

Terms of Employment / Salary

Terms of employment vary by sport. Salary is Based on the Kansas City Kansas Supplemental Salary Schedule.

Reporting / Evaluation

Report to: Board of Education. Evaluation will be conducted in accordance with Board of Education policy on evaluation.
