Overview

Armed Public Safety Officer – Emory Midtown Hospital is a role with Emory Healthcare. The position supports safety and security for patients, visitors, and staff, offering value-enriched services and a commitment to a safe environment across Emory Healthcare facilities. Responsibilities

Patrol facilities and property, observe for unauthorized persons or unsafe conditions, and maintain life safety standards. Maintain communication with Supervisors, Officers, Security Operations Center, and Law Enforcement to report crimes and safety-related incidents. Intervene in disputes using verbal de-escalation techniques to diffuse potentially violent situations involving patients, employees, or visitors. Investigate and document incidents in written and electronic formats; control access to restricted areas and verify admissibility of authorized individuals. Escort people or property as needed when safety is a concern. Assist with parking and security during events; provide directions and security information; perform dispatcher duties when assigned. Participate in activities beyond security operations as approved by Security Management. May include transport and release of bodies from the morgue, patient escort, elevator recall checks, and other safety-related tasks; interview and investigate suspicious or illegal activities. Detain unauthorized individuals in compliance with state and federal law; use force when appropriate to protect patients, staff, and visitors. Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) consecutive years of armed security, military, or law enforcement experience within the last 7 years. Must possess one of the following certifications or equivalents:

POST certification; OR Registration through a military (DD214 or current Military ID); OR All active, reserve, retired or honorably discharged military personnel will meet licensing/certification requirements

Federal, state, or local licensing firearms certification (e.g., DHS, NASA, NRA, GBI, or Secretary of State) Must successfully complete the Basic Security Officer and Firearms course mandated by the Secretary of State within 3 months post-hire. Must complete training to carry non-lethal weapons (e.g., Taser and/or baton) within 3 months post-hire. Must possess a valid driver’s license with no recent history of serious traffic violations (clean driving record not required). Must pass a psychological exam. Must obtain IAHSS Basic certification within 12 months. Obtain a BLS Certification within 12 months. Complete FEMA IS 100, 200, 700 & 800 within six months. Additional Details
