Location, Contact and Salary Information Location: Palm Beach Regional Juvenile Detention Center, 1100 W. 45th Street, Building A, West Palm Bch, Florida, 33407.

Minimum biweekly rate of pay: $1,830.32.

For internal promotions the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever is higher.

Position Description Responsible for adhering to agency and facility policies and procedures. Maintains a safe and secure environment for youth, staff, and self. Performs daily routine inspections of the detention facility; supervises and instructs workers in the care and custody of youth; ensures adequate safeguards for the detained youth.

Performs administrative functions relative to a supervisory position, including: orientation and training of staff; managing leave & attendance; preparing evaluations, special behavior reports, floor logs, and youth folders; maintaining key control; initiating and executing disciplinary actions in accordance with approved policies and procedures; preparing and reviewing confinement reports. Assures department and facility policies are adhered to.

Ensures tasks such as: maintaining proper management and leadership practices; following schedules; performing special details or projects; ensuring proper release procedures; providing assistance to detention personnel in handling youth with behavior or personal problems; acting as a representative for the facility in dealing with the general public; interpreting facility policies in the absence of higher supervisors; assigning staff for adequate staffing; participating in daily briefings; monitoring data entry in Master Control and Admissions/Release Office; completing required paperwork accurately and promptly; managing overtime rosters fairly and equitably; following state regulations; maintaining a valid driver license; caring for facility youth clothing; ensuring clean daily socks/underwear; coordinating workload for facility, staff and youth; overseeing medication dispensing; reporting CPR/AED incidents; maintaining timely incident reports; assisting with internal investigations; reviewing daily facility reports; complying with Florida statutes and Prompt Payment Compliance Law; and performing other related duties as required.

The position works a non‑traditional schedule and may be required to work various shifts based on facility needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of DJJ Detention Services Manual, Federal and State rules and regulations, and DJJ and facility policies and procedures.

Ability to supervise staff and youth.

Physical ability to manage violent youth.

Ability to work overtime hours to ensure staff coverage and maintain security.

Special Notes All prospective candidates will be subject to a sex offender check, criminal background checks (state, local and national), and pre‑employment drug screening for direct care positions. DJJ participates in E‑Verify (Employment Eligibility).

Driver License Requirements A valid driver’s license is required. If hired with an out‑of‑state license, the Florida resident must obtain a valid Florida state driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Suspended or revoked licenses, restricted licenses, or work permits not acceptable. A valid driver’s license with a 3‑year acceptable driving record is required for transportation of youth.

Direct Care Training Successful candidates must be certified in accordance with the State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice direct care training policy or obtain such certification within 180 days of employment.

ERGOMETRIC IMPACT Assessment Requirement Non‑direct‑care candidates must pass the ERGOMETRIC IMPACT Assessment and Training Test within six months of initial testing to be considered for direct‑care employment.

Gender Ratio and Discrimination Policy General staffing of a facility must comply with the male and female ratio of the juvenile population. The decision to hire a male or female employee based on a bona fide occupational qualification does not constitute discrimination, disparate treatment, or a violation of civil rights.

985.66 Florida Statute Requirements

Be at least 19 years of age.

Be a high school graduate or equivalent as determined by the department.

Not have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Abide by all provisions of s. 985.644 (1), regarding fingerprinting and background investigations and other screening requirements for personnel.

Application Affidavit Execute and submit an affidavit-of-application form, adopted by the department, attesting to compliance with the above requirements. The affidavit must be executed under oath, constitute an official statement under s. 837.06, and include conspicuous language that the intentional false execution constitutes a misdemeanor of the second degree. The employing agency shall retain the affidavit.
