Executive Underwriter - E&S Excess Casualty
Zurich North America is seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter – Excess Casualty to join our E&S team across the Atlanta, Dallas, or Houston regions. This hybrid role allows for flexible schedule and requires partnering with the manager and agents to drive market presence and profitability.
The candidate will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business for excess casualty lines, building and maintaining broker relationships, and supporting national wholesaler growth. Work is performed largely in a wholesale distribution model, leveraging Zurich’s technology platform and underwriting framework.
Responsibilities
Proactively seek new account opportunities and manage existing renewal accounts.
Demonstrate specialized knowledge in underwriting excess casualty lines.
Perform detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth.
Contribute to proposal development and completion.
Qualify accounts to meet appetite while balancing sound business opportunity.
Make agent/broker/customer on‑site calls with a clear purpose.
Negotiate terms and conditions and close deals.
Cross‑sell other lines to increase product density.
Participate in sales team meetings related to assigned brokers/territory.
Manage a qualified list of opportunities 90‑120 days prior to effective date.
Develop broker and client networks within the industries underwritten by this business unit.
Basic Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent with 5+ years underwriting or market‑facing experience, OR
High School Diploma or equivalent with 10+ years claims or underwriting support experience, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree with 3+ years underwriting or market‑facing experience, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree with 8+ years claims or underwriting support experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Experience working under time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Team‑oriented work style.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
Excess casualty experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Microsoft Office experience.
Compensation Salary range: $98,500.00 – $165,000.00 (nationwide). Short‑term incentive bonus eligibility: 15%.
Location Hybrid – Atlanta, Dallas or Houston, GA/TX.
