Assistant Professor of Materials Engineering - Department of Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management (Position 26-08). Tenure-track faculty position in Materials Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor. Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in materials engineering. Engage in research in materials engineering and manufacturing. Provide weekly office hours, participate in faculty meetings, contribute to assessment of student learning, and perform service to the department, college, and university. Possibly teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online; adhere to college and department standards for tenure and promotion. Contribute to equitable academic outcomes for all students through mentoring, teaching, scholarship, and service. Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field, with an official diploma at the time of employment from an accredited institution. College or university-level teaching experience (in-person and/or online) in areas such as materials characterization, mechanical behavior of materials, non-destructive evaluation, fundamentals of MEMS fabrication, composite materials, corrosion, thin film technology, failure analysis and phase transformations, nanomaterials and nanotechnology. Evidence of continuing research in materials engineering (presentations, peer‑reviewed publications, and development of external funding proposals). Experience operating materials characterization equipment and/or maintaining materials laboratory equipment (e.g., FESEM/SEM, EDAX/EBSD, EDS, XRD, AFM, microscopy). Experience advising, supervising, mentoring, and/or working effectively with undergraduate and graduate students. Preferred Qualifications

Interest in and knowledge of the MSEM department and CSUN, with a clear vision of contributing industrial or practical experience to enhance the Materials Engineering Master’s program. Experience researching or teaching in manufacturing and related fields. Independent teaching experience in the areas listed under Required Qualifications. Experience in recruiting students and growing enrollment and programs. Experience allocating and managing resources, supervising research assistants/lab technicians, and/or staff. Industrial or practical experience with materials engineering or related areas. Experience with assessment processes and accreditation systems (e.g., ABET). Strong communication skills demonstrated in writing and in teaching and research statements. Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body. Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students. Experience creating a student-centered learning environment. Research or lab experience involving students from diverse backgrounds; experience adopting inclusive mentoring approaches. Application Deadline
