Position Summary:
The Slitting Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the metal slitting department, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality processing of coil materials. This position leads a team of operators and material handlers to meet production schedules, maintain equipment performance, and achieve customer specifications for slit coil width, edge quality, and packaging standards.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise all slitting line operations, ensuring coil processing meets production plans and customer requirements.
Schedule and assign workloads to operators and assistants for optimal efficiency and productivity.
Oversee coil setup, knife tooling, arbor spacing, and line adjustments to achieve precise slit widths and edge quality.
Monitor line performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with maintenance to minimize downtime.
Verify proper material identification, tagging, and packaging of finished coils per customer and internal specifications.
Maintain production records, coil yield reports, and downtime logs accurately.
Train and mentor operators on slitting techniques, equipment care, safety procedures, and quality control.
Enforce plant safety policies and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase throughput, reduce scrap, and optimize material utilization.
Collaborate with quality and scheduling departments to resolve material issues and ensure on-time delivery.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in metal coil slitting, processing, or related manufacturing environment.
2+ years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
Strong working knowledge of slitting lines, knife setups, recoilers, and tension control systems.
Understanding of steel/aluminum grades, gauges, mechanical properties, and surface finish requirements.
Ability to read blueprints, micrometers, and precision measuring tools.
Proficient in production reporting systems (ERP/MES) and Microsoft Office.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality standards.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and operate machinery throughout the shift.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in an industrial environment with noise, heat, and moving equipment.
Willingness to work overtime or alternate shifts as needed to meet production goals.
