WASTE COLLECTOR OPERATOR II - City of Miami
This is a supplemental recruitment. Applicants who recently applied and were deemed eligible do not need to re-apply. The department is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy automotive and related equipment and for coordinating duties of a crew of Waste Collectors.
Essential Functions
- Drives an automated side loader garbage truck or rear loader garbage truck with packer and dumping controls on assigned routes. If applicable, checks assigned crewmembers to assure they properly empty garbage containers and replace them.
- Performs loading and unloading duties.
- Operates heavy equipment including automated side loader garbage trucks, rear end loader garbage trucks with packer and dumping controls, street sweeping machinery, roll-off trucks, and other Solid Waste vehicles.
- Operates garbage trucks hauling garbage/rubbish from various points in the City to the disposal pit or transfer station.
- Performs daily vehicle and equipment pre/post inspections and reports damages or malfunctions to ensure operability.
- Operates a street sweeper and heavy sprinkler truck for cleaning gutters and City streets; regulates water spray and dumps sweeper piles for debris collection.
- Collects scale tickets from disposal sites and completes required paperwork using basic math; uses assigned tablet to complete daily route.
Minimum Requirements
- Two (2) years of experience in the operation of automated side loader garbage trucks, rear loader garbage trucks with packer and dumping controls, or related heavy automotive equipment which requires a CDL.
- Special requirements: A valid State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License (Class B or higher) is required at time of application and must be maintained valid throughout employment.
Special Requirements
- Must be willing to work evenings, nights and weekends on a regular basis.
